Suspect caught after College Park officer-involved shooting

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- A suspect is in custody after an officer-involved shooting in College Park Friday afternoon.

Police were responding to a domestic call at around 2:30 p.m. and arrived to find a man running from the house who matched the description the complainant described.

Officers then gave chase to the man on foot. Police said the suspect turned toward the officer with a gun.

The officer then fired but missed, police chief Keith Meadows said. Eventually the suspect was apprehended and now faces charges that include aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving a stolen firearm.

Police said the gun was stolen out of Clayton County.

College Park apartment fire displaces 8 families

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. – Eight families were displaced after a fire at a College Park apartment complex early Sunday.

The fire happened at the Old Town Villas on Godby Road. About seven units were families.

The Red Cross is assisting victims of the fire. Families are being provided food, clothes and a temporary place to stay.

1 shot at MARTA station in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- One person was shot at the MARTA station in College Park on Tuesday, according to MARTA officials.

According to MARTA spokesperson Lyle Harris, the shooting happened after two men got into an argument around 1:50 p.m. at the station located at 3800 East Main Street.

The victim, who was conscious and alert, was transported to an area hospital.

Sherodrick Cheeley was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies. He is being held at Fulton County Jail.


Police investigate possible ties between attacks on women

COLLEGE PARK, Ga -- Investigators in College Park and Henry County are comparing information from two separate crimes against women to see if the same suspect may be responsible for both.

Both crimes happened in October. A 56-year-old College Park woman was taking a walk on Main Street when a car stopped beside her and the driver tried to get her in his car. Also in October, a 66-year-old Ellenwood woman was raped in her home. Police say the same man raped her in July.

Both victims gave descriptions of the suspects to a sketch artist and the sketches are eerily similar. "And it seems that there's some similarities in terms of the composite drawings," said College Park Police Chief Keith Meadows.

Fulton Police say an autistic teen who went missing from College Park Wednesday afternoon has been located.

Police said she wandered away from a convenience store on Godby Place near Old Bill Cook Road in College Park. 

After an extensive search, authorities said on Thursday that she had been found.

South Fulton Co. SWAT standoff ends with suspect in custody

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- A SWAT standoff has ended after a vehicle thought stolen tipped police off to a potential carjacker's location.

Though they have not released a name, authorities said that a suspect is in custody following the use of tear gas.
