Officials suspect arson in apartment fire

CLAYTON -- Clayton County Fire officials are searching for a man who they believe may be responsible for starting a fire at a College Park Apartment building.

A spokesman says Families were forced to jump and catch children dropped the second story.

Battalion Chief David Vazquez says it happened around 2 a.m. at the Lake in the Woods Apartments.

1 dead, 2 seriously injured in south Fulton Co. shooting

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- One man was killed and two others injured after a possible home invasion in south Fulton County Thursday night, police said.

The call about the shooting came in around 10:30 p.m. When Fulton County police arrived at the 2500 block of Picardy Circle, they found three men shot.

Police said a 31-year-old man was already dead at the scene. The other two, ages 25 and 37, were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police believe the suspects left the scene in a gray/silver SUV.

Investigations are underway to establish a motive and suspects, but no arrests have been made.

No names have been released. Police said the 31-year-old man was visiting and did not live in the area. The two injured men were local residents.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- At the Aug. 5 board meeting, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) approved the purchase of an election/asset management system and Poll Worker on-line training software system recommended by the county’s Department of Registration and Elections. Both systems will align the department to continue resolving issues that arose during the general election and general election runoff of 2008 as well as the primary and general elections of 2012.

“The approval to implement these two systems should improve our department’s ability to conduct elections more efficiently,” states Rick Barron, Director of the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections. “The 2016 Election Year is fast approaching and having these two systems in place will enable us to be better prepared for the expected increase in turn-out due to it being a Presidential Election year.”

Man charged in July 4 stray bullet death


FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- After four days of a family begging him to turn himself in, the neighbor of a teen killed by a stray bullet on July Fourth is now in custody.

Marcel Smith, 23, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.

Police said Smith refused to be interviewed in the death of Rasheeda Evans - his neighbor.

Despite the tragedy, at least one family member is opening his heart to his loved one's killer.

"The family forgives you," the young girl's uncle said.

She died of celebratory gunfire on July Fourth while sitting inside watching a movie on her tablet.

The young life of Rasheeda Evans was cut short by a stray bullet while she was sitting on the couch.

College Park chase ends in wreck, suspects on the loose

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- State and local authorities are searching for three suspects after a College Park police chase that ended in a wreck.

The wreck happened on Mozart Drive off Flat Shoals Road in Clayton County, and both College Park Police and the Georgia State Patrol are involved in the investigation with assistance from Clayton County police and deputies.

Officials said the chase began when a College Park officer drove up behind the vehicle, which was reported stolen.

The chase ended near Riverdale after a chase on Interstate 75 and in several neighborhoods. A trooper was forced to pit maneuver the vehicle to bring the chase to an end.

According to GSP officials, an officer suffered a leg injury in the foot chase for the suspects, but there's currently no reports of other injuries.
