Fulton County to Rededicate Basketball Court & South Fulton Performance Theater

Fulton County Announces Family Voting Day Dates . This Saturday and Next!

Atlanta, GA--  Make voting a family affair! The Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections invites voters to participate in its Family Voting Days – Saturday, October 16 and Saturday October 23, 2010. The event provides voters an opportunity to cast their ballots prior to Election Day and on a day that may be more convenient for their schedules.

Family Voting Days also provides an opportunity for children to learn more about the voting process. Children who accompany their parents to the polls on Family Voting Day will be given an opportunity to cast a ballot in a mock election for their favorite cartoon character.

On October 16, 2010, Family Voting Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Georgia Lottery Launches Search for Top Musical Acts

Atlanta, GA--  The Georgia Lottery is looking for the hottest music acts in Georgia. Your Hollywood dreams could come true with the Georgia Lottery’s All Access Music Search.

The All Access Music Search is open to all unsigned musical acts in Georgia in country, rock, pop/R&B, and hip-hop/rap. There will be one winner in each music genre.

Winners will receive a recording session at the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood. Additionally, the top 12 acts will perform at a professional football halftime show.

Registration for audition slots is open through Oct. 27, 2010. Acts may have one to five members.

Auditions will be held in Atlanta, Columbus, Macon and Savannah starting Oct. 28, 2010.

It's Showtime at the Apollo!!! Amateur Night Auditions this Saturday 10/16

Atlanta, GA--  This Saturday, October 16th at 10:00 a.m., all you amateur singers and performers who have dreamed of making it big and going to Harlem, NY and on the famous Apollo Theatre stage the chance is here and the time is now.

If you think you have what it takes to become an Apollo legend, now is your chance to prove it.  The world famous Apollo Theatre is seeking talent in Atlanta for its 2011 season of Amateur Night at the Apollo.  They are seeking singers, dancers, comedians, musicians, rappers and spoken word artists of all ages and talent levels.

The first place winner of the 2011 season of Amateur Night will receive a cash prize of $10,000.

Only the first 300 acts will be seen, so make sure to be at the Rialto Center on Georgia State's campus early.  Each contestant will have up to 90 seconds to audition.

Teresa Everett Selected as College Park Fire Chief

Atlanta, GA--  The City of College Park appointed Teresa Everett as the new Fire Chief. The installation was held during the October 4th meeting of the Mayor & Council.  Everett is the first female chief in the city’s history.  She comes to College Park from Rochester, New York where she was Deputy Chief, Training Division.

Mayor Jack Longino presided over Everett’s swearing in. “She’s well qualified to do the job,” said Longino.  “We conducted an extensive search, and I’m excited about her opportunity to become our new chief.”

Everett brings an impressive range of experience to College Park.  She served on the Miami-Dade Board of Fire Commissioners for two years and chaired the Commission in 2000-2001.

Celebrity Chefs to Help Celebrate National School Lunch Week in APS Cafeterias

Atlanta, GA--  More than 50 celebrity chefs will serve nutritious meals to students in school cafeterias throughout the district Oct. 13 to 15 during National School Lunch Week.

At APS, the week will highlight “Fresh Pick” options of locally grown fruits and vegetables that are served on a daily basis to APS students.

          Below is a schedule of several celebrity chef appearances in APS cafeterias during the week.

  • Oct. 13 – Atlanta Hawks Chef Bradley Rouse will serve students at Mary Jane Lin Elementary School, 586 Chandler Park Dr., NE Atlanta 30307.  The event is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
