Fulton Health Services Offers Help for Depression

Atlanta, GA--  The Fulton County Health Services Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities offers services to assist residents dealing with depression.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, everyone occasionally feels blue or sad, but these feelings are usually fleeting and pass within a couple of days.

Charter Schools Continue to Receive Large Funding, KIPP in Atlanta gets $2.5M

Atlanta, GA--  KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Metro Atlanta announced today that it has received a pledge of $2.5 million from the Colorado-based Charter School Growth Fund (CSGF) to support growth of its high-performing charter school network in Atlanta. CSGF also is announcing commitments from funders for over $80 million of a planned $160 million national fund, the largest philanthropic fund ever established to expand successful charter schools.

The $2.5 million award from CSGF will help launch KIPP Metro Atlanta’s expansion to a total of 8 schools serving 3,500 children in grades K-12 in the Atlanta metro area over the next 5 years.

The East Point NORC invites you to come out and enjoy FREE activites, events, seminars,and workshops for seniors.

Naturally Occurring Retirment Communities (NORC's) are housing developments or neighborhoods, which over time have evolved into communities with a significant proportion of households headed by seniors. Researchers have identified more than 5,000 NORC communities throughout the country.

 

        East Point has been designated as a NORC because of the dense population of seniors over the age of 60 living in their homes for more than 30 years. The East Point NORC is currently bridging new and existing community services through partnerships between community organizations, businesses, philanthropies, government agencies and residents to assist older people as they age in place.

Atlanta, GA--  Travelers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were surprised today by a pop-up performance from a 40-member singing, dancing flash mob promoting the grand opening of the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway, which is connected to the airport via the new ATL SkyTrain.

The Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department Invites the Public to the Rededication of Station #7

Atlanta, GA--  The Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department invites the public to the rededication of the newly renovated Fire Station #7 (5965 Buffington Road, College Park Ga. 30349), on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:30 a.m.

“We encourage our citizens to come out and visit their newly renovated fire station.  We also want them to be aware of the services and programs we offer as well to know that their fire department truly believes in community-based fire protection,” said Fire Chief Larry Few.

The renovations to Fire Station # 7 included: new kitchen counters, a new commercial refrigerator, an HVAC upgrade, new siding and stonework on the exterior of the building. The approximate cost of the work was $400,000.

The rededication of Fire Station #7 also serves as the department’s kick-off event for Fire Prevention Week.
