NFL Network and Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons to Visit Camp Creek Middle School

Atlanta, GA--  NFL Network, Comcast and Atlanta Falcons Kick Off 'Keep Gym in School' at Camp Creek Middle School on Tuesday, September 21st.

On Tuesday, Sept 21 at 10 a.m. Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner, will join NFL Network analyst Jamie Dukes; John Eaves, Chair Fulton County Commission; Dr. Cindy Loe, Superintendent of Fulton County Schools; and 1,000 Students and faculty from Camp Creek Middle School as a part of the “Keep Gym in School” program.

The goal of "Keep Gyms in School" is to help boost fitness and physical education in America's middle schools. This campaign was developed for middle schools across the country who have been forced to cut P.E. out of their daily curriculum.

Fulton County Schools and Local City Governments Improve Walking and Bike Routes for Students

Atlanta, GA-- Walking and bicycling will be safer for countless students in Fulton County this school year thanks to the Georgia Department of Transportation. GDOT has selected a number of schools to receive $1.5 million in federal grant money as part of Georgia’s Safe Route to School program. 

Crabapple Crossing Elementary School, Love T. Nolan Elementary School, Northwestern Middle School, Palmetto Elementary School, Sandtown Middle School, Seaborn Lee Elementary School and Summit Hill Elementary School were chosen to participate.

Partnering with Fulton County Government, the City of Milton and the City of Palmetto, students will benefit from infrastructure improvements such as the interconnection of sidewalks, crosswalk striping, improved lighting, traffic control devices, and ADA ramps.

To celebrate Courtyard by Marriott’s Refreshing Business lobby redesign program, the leading national hotel brand has constructed a replica lobby at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, providing thousands of travelers a space to lounge, connect and relax before a flight.

Access to the lobby will be available free of charge to travelers from Sept. 15 through Nov. 14, 2010. Replica lobbies are also in place for the same duration at Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Denver International Airport.

Features at the lobby replica include: A giant GoBoard® touch screen offering local weather and attraction information, flexible seating options, numerous power outlets and large communal tables and couches for guests to enjoy.

The replica lobby program was launched on September 7, 2010 at an event in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal featuring a special performance by six-time Grammy Award recipient John Legend.

Fulton County Dominates SAT with Six Schools in Top 25

ATLANTA -- Fulton County's statewide dominance of the SAT continues this year, with more than a third of its high schools scoring within the top 25 in the state.

In addition, reports from the College Board show that Northview High School has the highest SAT score in Georgia among schools with large numbers of test-takers.

* Alpharetta High School -- 1719 (no. 5)
* Chattahoochee High School, Alpharetta -- 1687 (no. 9)
* Milton High School -- 1650 (no. 17)
* Riverwood International Charter School, Sandy Springs -- 1640 (no. 18)
* Roswell High School -- 1627 (no. 21)

While Northview technically ranks third in the state, the two higher-scoring schools had only seven and 20 students, respectively, taking the test.

Register Early for Hands On Atlanta Day and Win a Chance to Work with Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta, GA--  Registration for 20th Annual Hands On Atlanta Day, one of the largest single-day volunteer efforts in the country, is now open to individuals, families and groups. As many as 10,000 volunteers will participate in service projects throughout metro-Atlanta, renovating public schools, taking part in environmental projects, making much needed repairs to seniors’ homes, and much more. This year’s Hands On Atlanta Day is presented by GE.

Registration is $5 for adults and is free for youths under 18 years of age.  Event proceeds support Hands On Atlanta’s volunteer programs.

Registrants who sign up by September 17 and are at least 18 years old will be entered in a drawing from which 25 lucky participants will be randomly selected to participate in an additional service day with the Atlanta Falcons this spring.

In addition, two of the winning 25 will each receive two round-trip, coach tickets to anywhere AirTran flies.
