College Park Recognized as a Finalist in the ARC "Create" Competition

College park, GA--  (submitted by City of College Park)   The City of College Park attended the Atlanta Regional Commission’s “CREATE” awards breakfast Thursday, March 3rd at the Charles Loudermilk Center in downtown Atlanta.  College Park was recognized as a finalist among 58 entries for its Advanced Storm Water Rehabilitation application. 

Jackson Myers, the College Park engineer serving as project manager for the Advanced Storm Water Rehabilitation project, was pleased with the city’s entry. 

“We were against some stiff competition; I’m proud that we were rated among the top 4 entries in our particular category,” said Myers.

The CREATE awards recognized several areas of achievement: Community Involvement & Collaboration, Regional Prosperity & Economic Development, Environmental Sustainability, Application & Innovation in Technology and Educational Excellence.

College Park Chevron sells Winning $250k Lottery Ticket

College Park, GA--  (submitted by GA Lottery) Selling a quarter-million dollar ticket in College Park has created quite the buzz. Chevron, located at 5631 W. Fayetteville Road in College Park, has sold a winning $250,000 top prize from the Georgia Lottery instant game Cool Cash.

Store clerk Rashid Siddiqi said the winner scratched the ticket in front of his window at the store.

“I sold the ticket,” he exclaimed.

Dora Potter of Riverdale claimed her prize at Georgia Lottery headquarters Monday.

Because of this, more people are buying lottery tickets, Siddiqi said.

“Of course people are playing mostly now,” he said. “It’s a good thing people are winning from our store.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education.

East Point Recieves $40k Award For it's Main Street Transit Plan

East Point, GA--  (submitted by the City of East point)  The City of East Point was awarded the Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) Supplemental Study funding ($40,000) by the Atlanta Regional Commission on February 23, 2011. The City of East Point will prepare a comprehensive development plan of two key nodes along Main Street/GA29 - the Central Business District and the area adjacent to Ft. McPherson which were both identified in the original 2004 LCI Study as prime locations for catalyst redevelopment projects. This section of US 29 is a primary transportation route that connects two (2) MARTA rail stations with a town center, historic employment center, downtown Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
