Atlanta Construction Companies Give Local Students Hands-On Experience with Construction

National ACE Mentoring Program Recently Won Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Math and Engineering Mentoring

Atlanta’s Turner Construction and other local construction firms have recently expanded the ACE Mentor Program -- an effort to encourage high school students to explore careers in the design and construction industry -- in metro Atlanta for the 2011-2012 session. Professionals in the construction, architecture and design fields mentor student teams, guiding them through weekly design projects, tours of major construction sites and visits to the offices of leading firms in the global building industry.

Fulton County Youth Commissioners (from left to right) Claire BeskinCathy Tang and Treva Tam prepare to carry plates of Thanksgiving dinners to homeless citizens and their families during the annual Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless dinner.  This year’s dinner was held at the Georgia World Congress Center.  The Hosea Feed the Hungry Thanksgiving dinner is one of several projects taken on by Youth Commissioners to serve those in need in Fulton County.

The Children's Center for Hope & Healing is looking for secret Santas. This wonderful non-profit organization  is dedicated to breaking the cycle of child sexual abuse and preventing the victimization of children.


If you, your office, your Sunday School Class, or your family would like to provide Christmas for one of our

children or one of our families, please call us for a wish list.  Every week, we see children whose shoes are

too small for their feet, whose legs have outgrown their Levi’s, or who greedily devour our snack supply

because they don’t have enough to eat at home.  

 

These families need our help providing clothing—winter jackets, blue jeans, sweaters, and pajamas as well as

College Park - Do you and your family get in the mood during the Christmas holiday and decorate your home with lights and nativity scenes???  Well if you do and you live in College Park, you can participate in the "Best Holiday Decorations" competition.

Each year the recreation department holds a competition and award for the “Best Holiday Decorations” for a home in College Park This year’s competition will be judged Friday, December 16th 6:00-8:00pm. Atlanta - BJ’s Wholesale Club is making it easy to spread holiday spirit this holiday season by inviting the community to participate in the BJ’s Holiday Food Drive to benefit area food banks.

What:              BJ’s Wholesale Club Holiday Food Drive invites the public to donate non-perishable, non-glass food items to benefit local Feeding America food banks and help ensure those in need receive well-balanced, nutritious meals this holiday season.

 

When:              November 28 through December 12, 2011

College Park Mayor lights up the Christmas tree on November 28th

College Park -  The public is invited to join College Park Mayor Jack P. Longino and Council for “Light Up College Park” on Monday, November 28th at 7PM on the front lawn of City Hall.  

Mayor Longino will flip the switch for the illuminating of the grand Christmas tree at city hall.

There will be refreshments, seasonal music by the Philharmonic Orchestra and Choral Group, romantic horse and carriage rides to kick off the holiday season.
