Random Acts of Kindness: Towanda McMullen and Deloris Hodo

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- Today's Random Act of Kindness is for a special mother-daughter duo who are truly inspiring.

At 19, Towanda McMullen dropped out of college but always regretted it. A few years ago, she decided to return and pursue her college degree. Her mother Deloris, retired after working at AT&T for 30 years, decided to go back with her so they could graduate together.

Despite several obstacles, both Towanda and Deloris crossed the stage together as graduates from Shorter College last month.

Thanks to a tip from a friend and a generous donation from Chateau Elan, 11Alive was able to reward this remarkable pair for their accomplishments.

Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Market opens 2013 season

On Wednesday, June 12, Fulton County Cooperative Extension kicks off its third season and will hit the road with two mobile units to cover expanded service areas of the Fulton Fresh Mobile Farmer’s Market program. The kickoff will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church located at 441 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., Atlanta.

The Fulton Fresh program provides fresh produce and nutrition education to residents living in communities identified as “food deserts,” which are large geographic areas where mainstream grocery stores are scarce or missing.  In 2012, Fulton County Cooperative Extension added the second mobile unit to assist more residents with making healthier choices to live healthier lives.
