Man killed in shooting at Mexican restaurant

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- A man has died after being shot in the parking lot of El Ranchero in College Park Monday morning.

The shooting happened at around 2:30 a.m. outside the Old National Highway restaurant.

College Park Police Master Sgt. Jeff Hightower said the victim got into a fight and was shot once. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hightower said the victim was a 22-year-old black man. His name has not yet been released.

Three people are being questioned in connection with the shooting. Police expect to file charges soon.

Man gets 10 years for smuggling machine gun through TSA security

ATLANTA -- An AirTran Airlines employee has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for smuggling cocaine and a machine gun through airport security.

Rasondo Maurice Norris admitted in court that he carried a MAC-11 machine gun, silencer, magazine and five kilograms of cocaine through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport last year.

The 30-year-old Stone Mountain man was convicted in October of the charges against him.

According to information presented in federal court, Norris was a baggage handler for AirTran. Homeland Security learned that Norris was accepting money to use his security clearance to help criminals smuggle contraband onto planes.

On three different occasions in May and June of 2013, undercover agents paid Norris to carry backpacks containing illicit items, including weapons and drugs, through airport security checkpoints. The defendant received between $600 and $800 for each trip.

Police looking for possible murder witness

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Police would like to speak with a young man who may have witnessed a murder in Clayton County over the weekend.

Investigators said Justin Avery Vitto was present at a homicide that occurred Saturday near the 900 block of Silverwood Drive in unincorporated College Park.

Police believe Vitto knows information that could help them solve the case.

Anyone who sees Vitto or knows his whereabouts is asked to call Clayton County police at 678-878-5642.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Two people were injured in an overnight shooting at a south Fulton County lounge.

The shooting happened at around 12:45 a.m. at W.E.T. Lounge on Roosevelt Highway.

Fulton County police spokeswoman Melissa Parker said two people were shot in the leg and were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Neither injury is considered life-threatening.

Investigators are now working to determine why the shooting occurred. They have not yet named any suspects.

Police find body while responding to alarm

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found inside a south Fulton County home over the weekend.

The unidentified man's remains were found at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Fulton County Police Sgt. Scott McBride said officers were dispatched to the house on Willow Park Trail after its alarm went off. When they arrived, they found the front door open and the body inside.

The cause of death has not been determined, but McBride said police are treating it as a homicide.

Man pleads guilty to killing cousin with hammer

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- An Atlanta man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to beating his cousin to death with a hammer.

Hagie Cham was sentenced last week. He entered the plea shortly before his trial was set to begin.

Police said Cham killed his cousin, 42-year-old Mohamadou Touray, on Aug. 7, 2010. The murder happened inside a discount mall on Godby Road in College Park.

Several witnesses told police they saw Cham, now 47, hit Touray in the head and chest with a hammer. Cham stayed at the scene and even admitted to responding officers that he killed the victim for sleeping with his wife.

Touray was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day.

Cham was charged with murder, felony murder and aggravated assault in Touray's death.

Man convicted of murdering teen in 2010

UNION CITY, Ga. -- A third suspect has been found guilty of gunning down a teenager after a botched drug deal three years ago.

On Monday, a Fulton County jury found 28-year-old Taurean Thorpe guilty of several charges, including murder, aggravated assault and conspiracy to sell marijuana. He will be sentenced Friday.

Thorpe is one of five men who police say gunned down 19-year-old Justin Evans outside a Union City apartment complex on June 21, 2010.

According to information presented in court, Evans tried to buy drugs from Thorpe and a co-defendant. The victim apparently stole the drugs and ran away, but the defendants tracked him down at his apartment complex.
