FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County’s annual celebration of Older Americans Month includes an open invitation for seniors, their families and members of the community to participate in Community Days.

Each facility will host a Community Day as a part of a month of special events designed to celebrate national Older Americans month, which is recognized in May.

The theme of this year’s celebration, “Get into the Act,” focuses on encouraging older adults to take charge of their health, engage in their communities, and have a positive impact on the lives of others. By promoting and engaging in activity, wellness, and inclusivity, more Americans than ever before can “Get into the Act.”

Donna Brazile to deliver Spelman College commencement address

ATLANTA -- Donna Brazile, an academic, author, syndicated columnist, television political commentator, and political strategist, has been named commencement speaker for the Spelman College Class of 2015. Brazile, who will receive an honorary degree, will address more than 475 graduates on Sunday, May 17 at 3 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center.

“Donna Brazile has been a trailblazer in the political arena and a staunch advocate for human and civil rights,” said Spelman College President Beverly Daniel Tatum. “We are pleased she will have an opportunity to impart words of wisdom to Spelman graduates as they begin the next phase of life's journey, and join the ranks of Spelman alumnae who have made a choice to change the world.”

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- First time homebuyers can learn the best strategies for buying a home during a workshop on Tuesday, Apr. 28.

The 6:30 p.m. workshop will be held in the College Park Branch Library located at 3647 Main Street. Topics to be discussed include:

• Fulton County Home Ownership Program
• What is needed to purchase a home

Fulton County to sponsor free paper shredding events

Fulton County to sponsor free paper shredding events

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Celebrate Earth Day at two free paper shredding events sponsored by Commissioner Joan P. Garner, District 4, and Fulton County Water Resources.

Fulton County residents are encouraged to take advantage of these free events to have personal papers and documents securely shredded. Residents are urged to make sure that the materials they present for shredding do not include plastic, cardboard, or metal. Paper clips and staples do not need to be removed. No businesses are permitted to participate.

The free secure shredding events will take place on Saturday, Apr. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at two locations:

South Fulton Career Center to host Manpower recruitment

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County’s South Fulton Career Center will host an onsite recruitment in partnership with Manpower on Friday, April 10, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Manpower is seeking experienced forklift operators and truck loaders/unloaders. Recruiters will take applications and screen applicants. The positions are located in the Fulton Industrial Boulevard area.

Recruiters are seeking experienced candidates for the first shift (5:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and the second shift (3 p.m. to 12 a.m.). Salaries will depend on the level of experience of those who qualify for the positions. The positions pay $10.50 to $10.75 an hour depending on the position and applicant experience.

Airport job fair seeks to fill 500 positions

ATLANTA -- Dozens of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport business owners are looking to fill 500 positions.

A job fair will be held Monday, March 30 at the Georgia International Convention Center, located at 2000 Convention Center Concourse (off Camp Creek Parkway) in College Park.

The event is an opportunity for qualified applicants to apply for jobs with airport concessionaires and other companies at Hartsfield-Jackson.

Available positions include baggage handler, bartender, cook, make-up artist, warehouse attendant and many more.
