News

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working to find out more about an officer involved shooting involving a truck driver on Saturday night.

The incident happened on Old National Highway in College Park officials said.

Preliminary information shows that four officers noticed suspicious activity from a truck driver, later identified as 46-year-old Yahya Nalm Shakur.

Police said that Shakur was "operating the semi-trailer in an unsafe manner" but did not elaborate on exactly what got their attention.

The statement from the GBI said that police ordered Shakur to stop and that he refused instead turning the large vehicle toward the officers.

Officers responded by firing at the wheels and engine of the truck. Officers later used a taser to remove Shakur from the truck but, according to the preliminary report, he was not shot.

Shakur was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a polic officer, reckless conduct, reckless driving, obstruction and driving under the influence - less safe.

No officers were injured and the investigation is now in the hands of the GBI to be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's Office for further action.
