Teaching children to be "Strong 4 Life"

ATLANTA -- Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, in partnership with the National Park Service, gathered families for a free community festival to get kids moving and eating healthy.

Almost 40% of children in Georgia are overweight or obese, and one doctor even says the problem has reached "epidemic proportions." The family festival was part of CHOA's new mission to improve that ranking.

CHOA is behind the controversial billboards and television ads featuring overweight children with messages such as, "Chubby isn't cute when it leads to diabetes."

"Our ad campaigns were created to create a level of awareness in the community," said CHOA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dan Salinas. "We wanted to make sure that everyone understood how serious the obesity problem was."

Hartsfield-Jackson to test new security screening procedure

ATLANTA -- Select travelers going through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and three other U.S. airports may find it easier getting through security if they volunteer more personal information to the government.

U.S. Transportation Security Administration head John Pistole says a pilot program starting Tuesday tests a new risk-based approach for screening passengers. The limited program dubbed TSA PreCheck will start at the major airports in Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami.

Under the program, TSA officials will assess certain passengers who volunteer more information about themselves before a flight. Those passengers would be sent to security lanes for expedited screening.

On hand to honor Lowery, former US Ambassador Andrew Young, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Delta CEO Richard Anderson and scores of Delta employees.

The dedicated aircraft will carry Lowery and other civil rights leaders to Washington in mid-October to attend the dedication of the MLK Memorial.

The plane will be under the command of an all-African-American flight crew.
