Fulton County State of Seniors Symposium to Hear from Seniors about Their Needs

ATLANTA -- Fulton County Housing and Human Services, Office of Aging will host a State of Seniors Symposium to hear from Seniors about their needs to age in place, and to remain healthy, vibrant and safe.   The symposium will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 10:00 a.m until 12:00 p.m. at the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility located at 677 Fairburn Road in Atlanta.

 The Symposium follows a State of Seniors Survey conducted in April and May by Fulton County in collaboration with the A. L. Burrus Institute for Public Service and Research at Kennesaw State University.

Seniors to Learn How to Guard Against Scams

ATLANTA -- Fulton County Seniors can take advantage of a workshop on how to protect themselves against scams.  The next session of “Be Aware of the Tricks of the Trade: Guarding against Senior Scams” will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.  The one-hour program will be held at the Dogwood Neighborhood Senior Center from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. 

The Dogwood Neighborhood Senior Center is located at 1953 Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW in Atlanta, GA 30318. The session is sponsored by the Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Housing and Community Development.

All Fulton County meeting facilities meet ADA accessibility requirements.  Citizens in need of reasonable accommodations and communication in an alternative format, please contact the Department of Housing and Human Services at (404) 613-7944.  For relay-type services, dial 711.

The Superior Court of Fulton County Hosts "Family Law Community Days"

The Superior Court of Fulton County’s Family Division is hosting three “Family Law Community Days” during the month of May. The events are designed to educate the public about the work of the Family Division and to help citizens with cases handled by the Family Division be better prepared in court. The Family Division is seeing an increase in the number of self-represented litigants. The “Family Law Community Days” will help citizens who choose to represent themselves better understand the court paperwork and process.

Free bulk waste disposal for South Fulton seniors

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -- Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards (District 7) will host a Bulk Waste Amnesty Day between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

South Fulton residents can bring large trash items to three College Park locations at no cost.

Acceptable waste includes refrigerators, furniture, electronics and tires; items like paint, household chemicals, batteries and construction waste cannot be taken.

Senior citizens are encouraged to participate in Bulk Waste Amnesty Day. For assistance, call 404-612-7400 before Saturday.

Drop-off locations include:

Atlanta’s first Hip-Hop Day, a free two-day family festival, honoring Hip-Hop, its legacy and awareness of key community issues, is set to take place Sat. Oct. 22 & Sun. Oct. 23. at Woodruff Park, in the heart of downtown Atlanta.
