All Georgia patrols to crack down on drunk driving, speeding

(WXIA) -- Summer 2013, as reported by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, makes ten years in a row that police are bumping up the number of patrols throughout Georgia - to crack down on dangerous driving.

Katie Fallon, spokeswoman for the GOHS said the boost in patrol is part of the 100 Days of Summer H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) campaign. It is a strategy in which all jurisdictions of highway safety enforcement work to reduce aggressive, high-speed travel and driving under the influence. During the summer months, accidents happen from these two bad driving habits.

"Temperatures won't be the only thing making the heat rise this summer," Director Harris Blackwood said. "From drunk drivers to aggressive speeders, all unsafe motorists will be feeling the H.E.A.T."

Delta boosts Los Angeles flying

LOS ANGELES -- Delta is adding flights in Los Angeles, continuing a slow-but-steady buildup in one of the world's biggest markets for air travel.

It's also adding bigger planes for some flights to John F. Kennedy airport in New York, with a higher-end seat in first class.

The eight new destinations include Seattle, Spokane, Wash., San Jose, and Anchorage. It's also adding Nashville - a key destination for people in the music business.

Delta has been adding partnerships with other airlines that bring passengers to Los Angeles, including Virgin Australia and Alaska Airlines. Those passengers can then transfer to Delta flights to other parts of the U.S.

Delta Air Lines Inc. has about 12 percent of the departures from Los Angeles, putting it in third place there, behind United and American.

GDOT Emergency Operations Center closing early Friday afternoon

ATLANTA -- The Georgia Department of Transportation closed their Emergency Operations Center early on Friday afternoon.

The center closed at 2:00 p.m., according to a spokeswoman for GDOT. GDOT decided to close early based on information from the National Weather Service, as it predicted that metro Atlanta will not be affected by severe weather conditions on Friday.

As reported, the Northeast Georgia District (D1) operations center will remain open until further notice. The spokesperson sad GDOT will have limited crews ready to respond as needed on the roadways.

MARTA holds special hours for Fourth of July

ATLANTA -- Riders can get downtown quick and easy this Fourth of July holiday with MARTA.

The service will run on a weekday schedule with special availability for events. Service will be available from 4:45 a.m. to 1 a.m. to accommodate the Peachtree Road Race, Braves game, and fireworks displays around town.

Customers are advised to purchase roundtrip tickets ahead of time to avoid crowds at stations. Tickets are $2.50 one way, plus a $1 charge for a permanent Breeze card. Parking for less than 24 hours is free at all of MARTA's daily parking facilities. Some designated MARTA lots charge a fee.

Fulton County Seeks Resident Input Regarding Transportation Projects for Unincorporated Fulton

Fulton County residents are invited to attend a series of upcoming community meetings to provide input regarding transportation projects for unincorporated Fulton County.

Meetings are scheduled as follows:

Tuesday, June 26, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Cliftondale Community Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park
Thursday, June 28, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Burdett Park, 2945 Burdett Park, College Park
Tuesday, July 10, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. – Southwest Library, 3665 Southwest Library, Atlanta
Thursday, July 12, 6:30 p.m. – 8: 30 p.m. – Renaissance Middle School, 7155 Hall Road, Fairburn

The purpose of the meetings will be to discuss transportation needs in unincorporated Fulton County and to develop a project list for consideration by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.

'Wireside Chats' to address TSPLOST questions

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Regional Commission has planned four more Wireside Chats to inform residents about the proposed TSPLOST sales tax and the projects it would fund.
