Kennesaw man killed in police pursuit

COLLEGE PARK, GA (WXIA) -- A 32-year-old Kennesaw man was killed late Friday afternoon when he was ejected from the Ford F-350 he was driving crashed during a police pursuit.

Deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office tried to conduct a traffic stop on the 2004 F-350. When the driver, Jonathan Fowler of Kennesaw, did not stop, a chase ensued. The Georgia State Patrol was contacted to assist Fulton County Deputies with the pursuit.

The chase ended on Roosevelt Highway at Leslie Drive when GSP troopers performed a PIT maneuver on Fowler's truck. Fowler was ejected from the truck and died at the scene of the wreck.

The Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and the DPS Office of Professional Standards is conducting a follow-up investigation.

Officials said the trooper who performed the PIT maneuver that caused the wreck has been placed on administrative leave, per Department of Public Safety policy.
